I love milk! In fact, I consider myself a milk snob. I've tried milk from various grocery stores in town and there are a few that I don't like the taste or they seem to go sour too quickly, so I won't purchase from those stores. BUT we go through a gallon of milk around here each day, so I hit my favorite stores and LOAD up my cart. No coffee, tea, or soda...it's milk (or water) for me!
Drinking lowfat or fat free milk each day is one simple step everyone can take toward achieving overall wellness. Milk is a nutrient-laden liquid that supplies many of the vitamins and minerals that Americans fail to get enough of in their daily diets. Each glass of milk is packed with nine essential nutrients: calcium, vitamin D, protein, phosphorus, riboflavin, vitamin B-12, vitamin A, potassium and niacin. Studies suggest that milk drinkers tend to have healthier diets and are likely to be leaner than people who drink little or no milk.
“You can feel good drinking milk and serving it to your family, because it’s one of the most nutrient-packed beverages you can buy,” said Melissa Joy Dobbins, RD. “And at about a quarter a glass, milk supplies more nutrients per penny than virtually any other drink.”Being a milk lover I was excited to find out that the Milk Moustache Tour was coming to Illinois. This tour is taking place around the country this summer to encourage Americans to not only live well, but drink well with milk. The tour has free health assessments for mom, free smoothies, ice-cold milk from a local dairy, a relaxing 5-minute wellness chair massage, and a chance to post for your own Milk Moustache photo.
